The Facts
What is an investment scam?
An investment scam is a type of fraud where a criminal convinces you to invest money into what seems like a genuine opportunity or investment product. They then divert your funds to accounts they control. Common scams include investing in cryptocurrency, currency trading platforms or through fake investment firms.
What legal routes are available?
Depending on the type of scam, the possible legal actions available include claims for deceit, fraudulent or negligent misrepresentation, or unjust enrichment, as well as injunctions or court orders to freeze assets and identify recipient accounts.
Can I get my money back?
Yes, in many cases we can recover funds, either by bringing claims against the people who received or facilitated the transfers, or by pursuing your bank for reimbursement if it failed in its legal duty to meet regulatory standards and industry codes.
Think you've been scammed?
Contact your bank first to raise an Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud alert and request recalls of any transfers sent, and freezing of any cards used. Then click here to start your claim with Complex Law.

Types of investment scam
Which of these happened to you?
Pick the closest match for your situation, so we can check if you have a claim.
Trading or forex platform
A "broker" showed you a dashboard of growing profits, then the account froze or disappeared.
Clone firm or fake bond
Someone posed as a real FCA-registered firm, with a cloned website, paperwork and phone numbers.
Someone I met online
A friendship or relationship that started online, then turned into investing together.
How Complex Law can help
We can help deal with your bank, engage with any platforms your funds were transferred through, secure court orders to freeze funds, and pursue claims against those responsible.
Rapid response and evidence preservation
We’ll help you gather and preserve the evidence you need, such as preservation letters and transaction records. We can also work with your bank to recall or freeze transactions in some cases.
Court orders and asset protection
We can request Norwich Pharmacal/ Bankers Trust disclosures to identify which accounts received your funds, and then seek court orders against any banks or account holders identified.
Claims against banks and facilitators
Banks have a duty to protect customers from scams under the CRM Code and Payment Services Regulations. If they failed to do so properly, we may be able to pursue reimbursement.
Payments and cost control
We’ll explain any costs related to your case upfront, so that you can balance the cost of pursuing a claim against the funds you’re trying to recover.

Ridiculously easy to check and apply. All the searching is done for you in literally one minute. A soft credit check is required but doesn't impact your score. Go and claim what’s rightly owed!

Frequently asked questions
If you don’t find the answer to your question here, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
Costs vary depending on the type of scam, the amounts involved and the complexity of the case. We'll build a recovery plan based on the specifics of your case, then we'll explain every cost involved in plain English, before you commit to anything.
Yes, just because a scam is based outside the UK doesn’t mean there’s no chance of successful legal action or recovery. In some cases, there will be UK-based receiving accounts, intermediaries, and platforms we can pursue to trace funds that have later moved abroad. We may also be able to use cross-border orders and liaise with overseas law enforcement and banks to recover your money.
Cryptocurrency transactions are anonymous, but still traceable in many cases. Depending on your case, there are a number of options available to us: tracing on-chain flows, compelling crypto exchanges to disclose wallet owners receiving stolen funds, or obtaining court orders to freeze crypto funds while an investigation proceeds.
It depends on the details of the case. Where deceit or misrepresentation is involved, there’s usually a limit of six years from the date the fraud occurred. But in reality, to have a realistic chance of recovery, you need to act as soon as you’re aware you’ve been scammed. Criminals move funds quickly, through multiple accounts or crypto wallets. The faster we can begin the process, the higher the chance of success.
Yes, in some cases they may be obliged to reimburse you. We can check whether your case qualifies, and deal with the bank on your behalf – or escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service if necessary.
Please don’t be. These scams are run by organised criminals using cloned firms, fake dashboards and spoofed numbers. We speak to people in your position every day.
As much as possible. The more evidence we have, the better the chance of a successful resolution. Useful evidence includes screenshots of the website, advert or social media page where the investment opportunity was offered, emails, texts or private messages discussing the investment, and bank or credit card statements detailing payments made.
