Thomas is a director at Complex Law with a background in accountancy and finance. He began his career at one of Europe’s largest car dealership groups before moving into the legal sector with a leading international firm, where he developed expertise in high‑volume claims and complex intercompany asset matters.

He later joined smaller practices to gain hands‑on experience, an approach that led to his becoming a shareholder at Complex Law. Over his career, Thomas has been instrumental in securing over £100 million in non‑recourse funding, enabling thousands of claimants to access justice without financial risk.

A strong advocate for legal innovation, he champions technology to remove barriers and deliver smarter, more accessible solutions. Thomas is a member of the Forbes Business Council, recognising his leadership and industry contribution.

Mark is a seasoned solicitor and director with over 15 years of experience, specialising in high-value commercial and civil disputes – particularly in fraud and financial mis-selling.

He also brings deep expertise in property law, having advised on complex disputes, built specialist teams, and worked with both the Property Care Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He was invited to advise the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee for its Seventeenth Report (2017–19): Japanese knotweed and the built environment.

Mark was previously a member of the Pan‑European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL), securing significant cross‑border settlements, and later led one of the UK’s largest housing disrepair teams. He now heads the team at Complex Law and is known for his clear, strategic guidance and unwavering commitment to client advocacy.

Jasmine is a director and solicitor at Complex Law and serves as our Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP). She joined in 2024, bringing extensive experience in risk management, civil litigation, and legal costs.

As COLP, Jasmine oversees our compliance framework in line with Lexcel accreditation, embedding high standards of professionalism and client care across the practice, and promoting a culture where regulatory requirements are understood, applied, and continuously improved.

Drawing on her expertise in litigation, risk, and compliance, Jasmine balances regulatory obligations with practical realities, supporting strong governance while enabling clients to achieve positive outcomes.

Paul Smith is a highly experienced solicitor and director of Complex Law, known for his long-standing commitment to excellence in personal injury litigation. His career in this field spans more than three decades, beginning in May 1988 when he founded Smith Jones Solicitors. Over the years, he grew the practice into a nationally respected specialist firm. In September 2009, Paul oversaw the incorporation of Smith Jones (Solicitors) as a limited company, cementing its position as a focused, high-performing personal injury practice. Under his leadership, the firm earned accreditation from the Solicitors Regulation Authority as a Personal Injury Practice and gained membership in both the Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Smith Jones continued to evolve and, in a significant milestone, was later acquired by Complex Law. Paul moved into his current role as Director, bringing with him decades of hands-on experience and strategic insight. He now plays a key part in shaping Complex Law’s approach to litigation, maintaining the same values of dedication, expertise, and client-focused service that defined his earlier work.

David is a solicitor in the firm’s general litigation department and leads both the Japanese Knotweed and Professional Negligence teams. He advises claimants and defendants in matters involving invasive plant disputes, professional negligence claims against former solicitors, and disputes with After the Event (ATE) insurers over the withdrawal of indemnity.

His broader practice covers a range of commercial litigation, insurance and professional services disputes, possession and eviction claims, and commercial debt recovery.

Before joining Complex Law, David worked at a leading insurance firm in their Commercial Insurance department. He acted on subrogated recovery claims arising from construction and property disputes, including complex multi-party litigation, and defended claims under the Animals Act. He also regularly advised on policy coverage issues and first-party fraud, with a particular focus on motor indemnity and the interaction between different classes of insurance in road traffic claims.

David brings a wealth of experience across both claimant and defendant work, combining technical expertise with a strong understanding of commercial and insurance considerations.

John is a highly experienced solicitor with over 14 years of post-qualification experience across personal injury, housing law, and conveyancing. He has led multiple large legal departments, managing complex caseloads and guiding teams to consistent, high‑quality outcomes.

Over his career, John has settled thousands of claims, securing multi‑million‑pound recoveries in damages and costs. His dedication and strategic approach have been instrumental in achieving favourable results across a wide spectrum of cases.

As Head of the Motor Finance team, John focuses on recovering mis‑sold car finance for clients, combining technical expertise with commercial insight to navigate this specialised area effectively. He oversees complex casework and ensures the delivery of efficient, results‑driven service across the department.
